Glitched Florals & Process
Usually I start off making a mood board to establish a creative direction for a project.
It might be odd, but my next step is to completely ignore that mood board and allow myself to sketch freely. I like to let my ideas run wild this way.
Next, I arrange these sketches to create the repeat pattern focusing on visual weight and scale.
For this project my focus was to create a pattern that was difficult to track the repeat.
Here is where I bring back the mood board and reduce colors. I like to keep my prints between 2-5 colors to abide by industry standards.
Next, I create coordinating patterns based on the the the principal repeat. Bringing elements of the motif out and emphasizing them.
Lastly, I like to play around with different colorways to see how it can change a collection.
Sometimes I think the most satisfying part of creating art is having a physical product at the end of a lot of tedious work.
Here are these patterns, woven on a jacquard loom.
